Barcelona going for Aguero Swoop?
Barcelona are planning to launch an
eye-watering £55 million bid for Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero, according to
reports in the Catalan media cited by the Metro.
25-year-old Aguero is a beloved figure
at the Etihad Stadium, due in no small part to his energetic performances and
now infamous last-gasp winner against QPR on the last day of the 2011/12 season
that secured City their maiden Premier League crown.
Although his form dipped somewhat as
the Citizens laboured to a hugely disappointing finish under the hugely
divisive figure of Roberto Mancini last season, the Argentine international has
showed promising signs of recovery during the early stages of the current
campaign and has so far notched four goals in six top-flight encounters -
including a brace during the emphatic 4-1 demolition of fierce rivals
Manchester United in September.
City could face a real struggle to
hold on to their star man when the transfer window re-opens, however, with the
Metro citing unnamed Catalan sources who suggest that Barcelona - currently
topping La Liga after enjoying an encouraging start to life under Aguero's
compatriot Gerardo Martino - are plotting to considerably test their resolve
with a whopping £55 million offer in January.
